Description
- Twig Tea aroma is deeply earthy and reminiscent of dark chocolate. It has a deep, rich, creamy, nutty flavor.
- 50g of twig tea typically makes 20-24 cups of tea, depending on personal preference. This does not include subsequent steepings, which increases servings substantially. All teas sold here differ in weight, rather than in volume. This is done to ensure that you receive a full bag of your favorite brew.
- BREWING INSTRUCTIONS: For a great tasting brew, pour 200ml of 85-90 degree water over a heaping teaspoon of kukicha for 3 minutes. For a second or third infusion, use water with higher temperature and shorten the steep time. Longer steeping extracts more caffeine and bitterness. For iced tea, use same temperature but less water (1/2 to 1/3 depending on personal preference) with the same steep time. Pour strained tea over ice.
Kukicha, also known as 3 year tea, is a Japanese tea made from the twigs and stems of the same plant that green tea comes from, having been on the plant for at least three years (losing almost all of the caffeine, but also having absorbed all the multiple properties and vitamins of nature around them). Often referred to as twig tea, it is steamed, dried, aged and roasted after being harvested. Kukicha tea is known to be very alkalizing, great for digestion (perfect after a meal), and high in calcium (a cup of tea kukicha contains up to 13 times more calcium than a glass of milk). This tea does well with multiple steepings. Also very refreshing when iced, and when lightly sweetened the creamy/nutty flavor is really enhanced.
